A Unique Father’s Day Gift for a Dad In Touch With His Inner Nerd

Every year, I obsess over finding a unique fathers day gift for my father. I start out looking for a super gift, but somehow end up getting him a tie, some power tool, or just taking him out to dinner. The problem is that while I know Dad will appreciate anything I get him, I also know that he doesn’t really need or want much: he’s the type of guy that will buy whatever he wants and he’s past the point where he has many “needs”.

This year, as with Mother’s Day, I decided to make shopping a project and focused on the most efficient way to find a gift. After doing some surfing, I came back to the Collectibles Today. They have a Father’s Day store that is really easy to use. After looking through their tech gifts and Star Wars gifts for fathers, I decided on the Star Wars graphic novel collection from Dark Horse. I’m a big comics fan, my little brothers are just getting into them and we all love Star Wars so this gift seems like a win-win-win.

I’m really happy with my choice. I’ll still be taking Dad out for a beer, but I finally got him something worth while too (it helps that I can borrow them). Maybe this wouldn’t be the best gift for everyone, but if your dad is into sci-fi and still likes Star Wars despite the recent films, then this is a great place to start.

Mothers Day is almost here. Any advice on finding a gift?

I am terrible at gift giving. Not because I’m cheap (I’ll spend what I need to) or lazy (alright, maybe a little), but because I’m never sure what to get the most important people in my life. For example, I’ve been dreading Mother’s Day since the beginning of April. I’ve searched Amazon, flower shops, art galleries, and my psyche in pursuit of the perfect mothers day gifts for my mother and step-mother .

No luck.

So now the clock is really ticking and I still have no idea what I am going to get them, but I’ve made some decisions about how I’m going to shop:

1. Look for a one-stop-shop (efficiency is key)

2. Make a decision quickly (you don’t want time to second-guess yourself)

3. Get express shipping (Mother’s Day is really close)

With these 3 precepts, I plan to conquer Mother’s Day. If anyone is on a similar quest, leave me a comment.
